Wandsworth Community Education Provider Network (CEPN) was established originally as a hub to coordinate and provide education for the local primary care and community workforce. Nationally, the CEPN programme has become a key aspect of a general practice workforce development as part of the ‘New Deal for Primary Care’.
Over the last year, Wandsworth CEPN has grown considerably, in terms of both knowledge and capacity. We now have an education team in place, which supports the delivery of our objectives, managing the coordination of training across the various organisations and maintaining the training database centrally.
We have been successful in supporting the development of other local CEPNs and now also work jointly on some shared projects with them.
We continue to increase the number of nurse mentors and apprentices in the borough; we are working to increase the number of pre-registration nursing placements within Wandsworth.
The CEPN has helped to create and strengthen existing relationships amongst and across professional groups – facilitating and attending forums for Healthcare Assistants, Practice Managers and Practice Nurses and where possible we have offered multi-professional training. All of the above have helped to increase awareness of specific job roles and responsibilities within general practice, mental health, community and social services.
Our network is continuing to grow and we’re really pleased to be able to work closely with our practices, the local CCG, the Mental Health Trust, the local Health Education Institute (HEI), Wandsworth Care Homes, Trinity Hospice, Public Health and Community Pharmacy. For the year 2016/17, we hope to expand our network even more by engaging the 600 (approx.) charities across the borough, as well as various patient and carer groups, London Ambulance Service, the social services, schools and other appropriate private organisations.
